Sara Dowling – short bio

Sara Dowling is a Palestinian-Irish jazz vocalist, named Best Vocalist at the 2019 British Jazz Awards and recognized as one of Europe’s leading jazz singers. Rooted in the African American jazz tradition and enriched by her Arab heritage and classical training, she moves fluidly between standards, Brazilian repertoire and her own compositions.

Shaped by the bold, improvisational spirit of Betty Carter and the rich tone of Sarah Vaughan, she is a powerful, expressive singer with a commanding stage presence, known for daring improvisation and deep storytelling. Her connection to her Palestinian culture and her love of classical music fuse into a style that is unmistakably her own.

She has headlined San Javier and San Sebastián Jazzaldia and performed at festivals across Europe and Mexico. El País praised her “powerful vocal range and commanding stage presence.”
