From Listening to Performing: Interplay and Inspiration in Jazz Piano–Vocal Duos
A unique opportunity to learn from the masters. Witness up close the artistry of Michael Kanan — one of the great accompanists of our time — and gain insight into the subtle, powerful world of jazz standards and vocal interpretation.
Join us for a unique workshop with one of the finest jazz pianists from the U.S., Michael Kanan, widely recognized on the New York scene as the leading vocal accompanist and a true connoisseur of Jazz Standards (Great American Songbook). In this session, we’ll explore the art of accompanying the voice without losing musical interplay, and how to improvise melodically by drawing inspiration from your accompanist. The workshop will include live demonstrations by Sara and Michael, offering insight into their musical dialogue. A portion of the class will be dedicated to full participant students, who will have the opportunity to perform, receive feedback, and work directly with the teachers or fellow students. Each participant will also receive a curated listening guide to key piano–vocal duo albums.

Únete a este taller único con uno de los pianistas de jazz más destacados de EE. UU., Michael Kanan, ampliamente reconocido en la escena de Nueva York como el mejor acompañante vocal y un auténtico conocedor de los Jazz Standards (Great American Songbook). Exploraremos el arte de acompañar a la voz sin renunciar al diálogo musical, y cómo improvisar melódicamente inspirándose en el acompañante. El taller incluirá demostraciones en vivo a cargo de Sara y Michael, ofreciendo una visión directa de su interacción musical.
